About Japanese Kanji Flashcards, Volume 1:

  • Each card includes 6 vocab words/phrases including commonly used kanji compounds
  • 300 beginner-level kanji suitable for people who are studying for JLPT level N4 or N5.*
  • Includes each character's on and kun readings
  • Easy and fun to use—perfect for study and drilling
  • Japanese all in kana and kanji (no romaji), with clear definitions in English

Other features:

  • Stroke-by-stroke diagrams show you how to write each kanji
  • Our look-alike kanji feature helps you look out for confusingly similar kanji

White Rabbit Press flashcards include more vocabulary than other publishers' cards because the essence of a kanji is best grasped by understanding the meanings it forms when combined with other characters.

We only use kana scripts--not romaji--to show kanji readings, and we provide clear and precise definitions in English, so you'll spend less time reaching for a dictionary and more time learning kanji.

*IMPORTANT NOTICE

We have revised our Kanji Flashcards series due to changes with the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). We are calling this revised product family "Japanese Kanji Flashcards SERIES 2" and it includes:

  • Japanese Kanji Flashcards, Series 2, Volume 1: 300 Beginner-Level Kanji Cards (this product)
  • Japanese Kanji Flashcards, Series 2, Volume 2: 750 Intermediate-Level Kanji Cards (available here)
  • Japanese Kanji Flashcards, Series 2, Volume 3: 895 Advanced-Level Kanji Cards (available here)

In creating these new volumes, we have re-distributed some kanji between the original sets, and also changed the sequence numbers within sets. As a result, if you purchase the NEW SERIES 2 Volume 1 set (this product) and the original Series 1 Volume 2 set, you will end up with 16 duplicate cards.

*PLEASE NOTE: The official lists of kanji for the new JLPT levels N1 ~ N5 will not be made public, however, as these are the 300 basic kanji they provide preparation for the NEW JLPT Levels N4 and N5.

Product Review
"White Rabbit Press's kanji flashcards are a step ahead. Above and beyond the standard content, you get six example words rather then the usual four, full definitions, and a look-alike box that alerts you to similar characters all too likely to show up in trick questions in exams. As with all the best educational materials, it's clear here that an enormous amount of work has gone into making the learning process as easy and convenient as possible for the student."

I have used both the first and second volumes of these flash cards and have found them absolutely wonderful. I'm currently taking Japanese at a University, last year before I got these flashcards I averaged about 6/10 on our weekly kanji quizzes, since then my Kanji grades have significantly improved. This past quarter I received a 10/10 on all our weekly kanji quizzes. What I especially like about these flash cards is how well the related to the material my class is covering, the words we focus on for each kanji is always one of the vocabulary words listed.

I've used these cards for some time now, and I must say that they are awesome. My memory retention of kanji with these has risen dramatically (I can now differentiate when various readings are used, to an extent).

The only problem I have with them is that there isn't some kind of workbook to go with the cards.

Before this set went on the market, I tried using some other kanji cards that I bought in Japan, and was disappointed. They all have problems, such as useless vocabulary examples, poor durability, or random organization.

These are the best kanji cards on the market, even in Japan, and are designed especially for English speakers. They're highly durable, and are organized by JLPT level. This ensures that you're learning the most important kanji first.

If you've found this page and want to learn kanji, don't think twice about buying this set. You won't be disappointed, and you WILL be able to learn these very important 284 kanji with the help of these cards.

As said before, these kanji flashcards simply are the best available on the market !
They're rather cheap and they fit in a pocket. They're pretty resistant too.
They sure are designed for English speaker but as a French-speaking person, I find it useful... I'm learning new words in both languages ! So non-native English-speaking people, think about this !

These are by far the best Kanji flashcards on the market (but if you made it this far, you probably already know that.)

What can I tell you that you may not know already? Well, you don't have to be studying for the JLPT to use them--I'm learning Japanese with the Genki textbook and as we move through the text, I pull out the 15 or so cards that correspond to the Kanji for that chapter. These cards have WAY more info than the book does. I just finished my first semester of university-level Japanese and not only did I get an A, I got the top grade in my class.

Arigatou Gozaimashita to Max and Tomoko-san!

One last thought, get the plastic flashcard case too! It's perfect for protecting your cards in your school bag or just taking a small stack with you everywhere you go!

These flashcards are virtually perfect in every way. They're small enough to carry around and study anywhere and yet full of information and example usages. Great for drilling games or just plain old studying. Very sturdy cards that can definitely stand the test of time and repeated use. I cannot recommend these cards enough to anyone wanting to learn kanji or Japanese kana. They are also conveniently divided between JLPT levels so you can choose which level to buy for. And the price is a steal. Absolutely the best Kanji flashcards on the market. Don't even think about it, just buy them!

These flashcards are fantastic. Great design, perfect size, and lots of valuable information. Even for intermediate or advanced students, the cards offer many vocabulary and kanji compounds for each kanji. Highly recommended, and well worth the money.

These are a must have for ANY student, I cannot stress this enough. Worth their weight in gold for anyone struggling with kanji. I had been making my own up until now, wishing there was a flash card that contained all of the information I needed to know... White Rabbit Press came to the rescue!
