Nihongo Chukyu J501 is a challenging and thorough textbook/workbook that will deepen your understanding and ability to use Japanese. It's the most challenging 'intermediate' textbook we offer, and is even suitable for many advanced students.
Each chapter is long and includes a wealth of information and review. You start off with a reading passage. The topics are interesting and relevant -- and challenging. You may need to look up various words to really understand them. Then there are vocabulary exercises to test your understanding of the topic, as well as reading comprehension questions. Next, there are explanations and exercises for the grammar.
Each chapter includes multiple reading passages, a true variety of exercises (you practice not only vocab and grammar from the reading passages, but also a variety of other grammar and vocabulary), and good explanations, sometimes in English when necessary.
Even if you consider yourself an advanced student, take a look at this book and consider using it. If you are a lower intermediate student, this might even be too difficult, unless you are devoted. It's perfect for slightly more advanced intermediate students.
