Canon Wordtank V80 Japanese-English-Chinese Electronic Dictionary
This Canon Wordtank V80 electronic dictionary does contain English-Japanese and Japanese-English dictionaries; however, it is primarily designed for Japanese-Chinese usage. It features a pen input method which allows you to search for kanji by writing the kanji directly on the screen.
Because the Canon Wordtank G55 contains many more English-Japanese entries (over 250,000 compared to the V80's 95,000), we recommend the G55 as a primary dictionary for Japanese langauage learners. However, if you are needing to lookup a lot of kanji for which you have no reading (yomi), the pen input capability of this dictionary would make such work much more efficient. Once you find the reading, you could them look it up in your G55.

knowing Hiragana is prerequisite to use any of the electronic dictionaries we are selling. If you don't already know hiragana, please consider purchasing our set of "Kana Flashcards" along with this product. There are about 46 kana characters, so if you learn 5 or 10 per day, you can learn hiragana in about a week.
Keep in mind:
When you look up a word from English to Japanese, the results come back written in Japanese (kanji, hiragana and katakana). Using the jump function you can quickly find what you are looking for, but it may pose an initial challenge (especially to beginners.)
